Reflection on Unit 1 (ICT401)

The session on Bhutan’s Transition to a Digital Society and the themes of Digital Drukyul helped me see how important technology is for the future of our country. I realized that the digital vision of Bhutan is not just about modern tools but also about making sure every citizen, regardless of their background, can participate and benefit. As a future educator, this reminded me that I have a role in preparing students to be confident, responsible, and capable in a digital world.

When we studied the ICT Curriculum Framework, I found it very useful to look at the goals, guiding principles, and competencies. It showed me what kind of digital citizens we are trying to nurture and how the framework is linked to real classroom practices. Creating the competency mapping table was especially helpful because I could clearly see how the strands connect to teaching and learning outcomes. This made me feel that curriculum design is not just theoretical but something I can apply practically in my future lessons.

Out of the two models we discussed, SAMR and TPACK, I related more with the TPACK model. I liked how it combines technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge instead of focusing only on technology use. As a teacher, I believe this is important because effective teaching means balancing all three areas. Technology should not be used for the sake of using it, but it should support meaningful learning.

Another topic that really influenced me was Universal Design for Learning (UDL). I learned that inclusiveness in teaching means designing lessons that consider different learning styles and needs right from the beginning. The three principles, engagement, representation, and action/expression helped me imagine how I can make lessons more flexible. For example, instead of only giving text-based tasks, I could encourage students to express their learning through videos, diagrams, or digital projects. This would make learning more engaging and fair for everyone.

Overall, Unit One changed my perspective on ICT teaching. Earlier I thought ICT was mostly about teaching computer skills, but now I understand it is more about shaping students to be creative, critical, and responsible digital citizens. I feel motivated to integrate the TPACK framework in my planning and use UDL guidelines so that all learners have equal opportunities.

This learning experience has given me both theoretical understanding and practical tools, which I believe will guide me throughout my teaching career. I now feel more confident about contributing to Bhutan’s vision of Digital Drukyul through my role as an educator.
